Monday, January 22, 2024, at 9 a.m. I hope you're able to tune in, while I'm on WSBS Radio (860 AM and 94.1 FM) with host Ron Carson discussing my latest novel, The Earth Consented (science fiction about human contact with extra-terrestrials), as well as what I'm currently working on, the sequel to my novel The Vampire (supernatural). Listen Live WSBS article  Happy New Year, everyone. 2023 was one of the most challenging years of my life with my father's unexpected passing. While the first half of the year was joyous for many reasons, including finishing and releasing my latest novel, The Earth Consented, the second half brought profound sorrow. There were blessings within it, however, which included having the opportunity to have one last meaningful conversation with my father before he lost consciousness and his ability to speak. The signs he sent me following his passing were undoubtedly him - no question. For that, I am forever grateful. From those signs, I am keenly aware that he is at peace where he is, and can communicate with my mother and me in fascinating new ways, which have left us in awe. He promised he would do that before he left and he kept that and many other promises. I intend to honor my father's life for the rest of mine. With the start of a new year, I believe I will find some peace and healing in writing my next book, the sequel to The Vampire, which readers have been requesting for years. I've already started. No telling how long this book will take to complete, but my imagination is engaged - that's all I truly need. That, and time. Below are some photos of my dad, Edwin, during happy times, as well as some photos I'm using for inspiration for the new book, which will include many of the characters from The Vampire, as well as a few new ones I am really enjoying creating and I know readers will love, too.
The Warwick Beacon attended my recent book signing and launch for The Earth Consented (sci-fi / human contact with aliens) at the Cranston Public Library. Read the article here:  The Earth Consented is dedicated to my father, Edwin J. Smith, Jr. My dad recently suffered a medical emergency but is thankfully slowly and steadily recovering. He would have absolutely loved the book launch and signing, but he was unable to be there. He was, however, aware of the event and enjoyed hearing all about it afterward. No one loves science fiction, and tales of UFO and alien sightings more than my dad. Growing up, television shows and movies such as Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind, were always on in our house, and we’d talk endlessly about the otherworldly concepts presented. I grew to love the genre and found that being exposed to (what seemed then to be) such outlandish stories stoked my creative imagination. For that, I am forever grateful. My latest work, The Earth Consented, feels like a culmination of everything we’ve been discussing for decades, so it was only appropriate I dedicate this book to him. I do expect my father to be riding around on his tractor (which he loves) as soon as humanly possible, once he makes a full recovery. Thank you to everyone who has offered kind words of support, well wishes, and prayers. He, my mother, and I sincerely appreciate it. It was truly a magnificent event with so many loyal readers showing up to hear more about my work, buy a book, and have me sign it. The Cranston Public Library is the perfect space to hold this type of event, and its staff is incredibly attentive, courteous and accommodating. I hope everyone who now has a copy of The Earth Consented enjoyed it as much as I did writing it. Jeffrey was even kind enough to share some Prince stories with me. Jeffrey Osborne grew up in RI, and music played a major role in his upbringing. Since its inception in 2012, the Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic has delivered over $1,000,000 to local Rhode Island non-profits. The RI organizations receiving contributions from this year’s Celebrity Classic include Amos House, the Music School of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence, The MET School, Button Hole, and St. Mary’s Home for Children.  |
