WBZ Book Club with Jordan Rich Spotlights Author Raina C. Smith
A Rising Voice in Supernatural Fiction

New England author explores struggle, power, and redemption in her
riveting vampire series, now gaining national attention

BOSTON, MA – The WBZ Book Club with Jordan Rich features author Raina C. Smith’s latest work on one of the country's most respected and influential literary platforms. Airing on WBZ NewsRadio 1030 AM and streaming nationwide via iHeartRadio, the WBZ Book Club is known for introducing many of the nation’s most compelling authors to its extensive New England audience and beyond. The feature heralds Smith’s latest novel, “The Vampire – A Covenant for Peace” (book 2 in The Vampire series), which is a bold and timely tale of supernatural suspense, love, and spiritual reckoning.

Smith’s sixth novel continues her mythic "The Vampire" series, a soul-stirring journey where darkness and destiny collide. The narrative is richly layered, defying time and genre.

Rich said, “I love to highlight local authors who are putting out some amazing books, and today we have a prime example. Raina C. Smith hails from the great state of Rhode Island, and to suggest that she’s been rather prolific would be an understatement.” He adds that her new book is “lush, mysterious, and romantic, and fans who are waiting for a sequel are very happy there is one.”

The Vampire – A Covenant for Peace, with its vivid prose, mythic weight, and emotional resonance, continues the story of Rex, a supernatural being struggling to reconcile the darkness within him with hope for redemption in a world divided by fear and power. Rich encourages listeners to visit rainasmith.com to explore her full catalog of thought-provoking fiction.

“It’s an honor to have my work featured by the WBZ Book Club’s Jordan Rich, one of New England’s most trusted literary voices,” said Smith. “Jordan’s insight and storytelling appreciation make this recognition especially meaningful, and I am deeply grateful for his endorsement. At its core, The Vampire – A Covenant for Peace is about the human search for belonging, redemption, and transformation—and I’m grateful to share that journey with book lovers.”

The WBZ Book Club is broadcast on one of the most powerful stations in the United States. Its signal covers 38 states and reaches hundreds of thousands of listeners across New England and beyond.

Book Dedication: To my father, Edwin

My new book, The Vampire - A Covenant for Peace, is lovingly dedicated to my father Edwin J. Smith, Jr., who left us in September 2023.

My mother and I miss him beyond description, but his continued extraordinary contact with us (and one of his close friends) lets us know he is still around, we just can't see him. Undoubtedly, he is still checking in and even clowning around with us.

He inspired my imagination and creative side with hours-long conversations about various supernatural topics. I learned so much from him, and what we discussed inspires me to this day.

I know he would enjoy the story in my latest novel and therefore is so appropriate it is dedicated to him.

Author Raina C. Smith Releases New Book
The Vampire — A Covenant for Peace,
the Much-Anticipated Sequel to
The Vampire

Author Raina C. Smith has released her sixth novel, The Vampire — A Covenant for Peace, the highly anticipated sequel to her novel The Vampire.

In The Vampire — A Covenant for Peace (Volume 2), the agonizing odyssey of one of the world’s oldest and most powerful vampires, Rex, who, centuries ago, covertly settled among unsuspecting mortals in Newport, Rhode Island, to escape the devilish, uncontrolled nature of his kind overseas, continues.

Like the first book in the series, The Vampire—A Covenant for Peace's narrative is sprawling and complex. It interweaves themes of good versus evil, religion, spirituality, and lost innocence, creating an enigmatic body of work.

“This sequel is so much more than the continuation of a vampire story where the main character brutally kills to feed. Rex is a vigilante killer, claiming the lives only of those he deems the scourge of society. This story masterfully blends morality and darkness in equal measure,” Smith said. “As in all of my books, The Vampire — A Covenant for Peace is fast-paced and heavily plot-driven, with all the original characters, but adding new complex protagonists that will catch readers off guard, leaving them either enchanted or deeply unsettled.”

Smith says readers can expect to see many of the original characters from The Vampire novel in the sequel, including the main character, Rex, his love interest Renée, the vampire’s loyal butler, Piedmont, and his dog Hank, as well as the diabolical Valder and Balázs who find new ways to wreak havoc on Rex’s quiet existence in Rhode Island. However, the latest book introduces readers to an organized group of men bent on ridding Newport of vampires permanently, as well as a witch who takes the story in an unexpected direction.

“I am excited to see how readers respond to the original as well as the newest characters to the series, who have an intriguing influence on Rex, bringing their unique perspectives to the story,” Smith added. “Readers can expect to continue feeling deep empathy for Rex, who remains plagued by the outside forces of society who misunderstand and betray him, as well as his own internal conflict and moral dilemma of being a vampire who must kill to survive — all in a world controlled by mortals where few understand a being such as him.”

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

In The Vampire — A Covenant for Peace (Volume 2), Rex, a tormented supernatural being who once accepted his existence as an eternity of despair, finds himself at the crossroads of fate and hope when his true love, Renée, upends his life with a bombshell revelation. The implications of her secret force the vampire to grapple with the realization that he is more intertwined with humanity than he knew possible, leaving him with an unsettling sense of vulnerability.

While confronting parts of himself he thought long buried, Rex discovers that a witch has been living on his property without his knowledge or consent. But why she’s there and what she’s doing concerns the undead being who came to the City by the Sea to build a life in anonymity. However, the angry men who tried to kill him merely for existing are not so quiet about their plans to rid him of their community once and for all. With so much weighing on him, Rex is unsure if there could ever be a promise of peace between the human and supernatural worlds.

In Rome, as new enemies arise and old wounds fester, Balázs, a traitor to the vampire community, remains imprisoned at the Vatican. He may hold the key to Rex’s salvation—or be his ultimate downfall. To find out, Rex must first navigate treacherous alliances and confront his deepest fears while attempting to free him.

With the looming centuries-long war between vampires and the Vatican, a covenant between the unlikeliest of allies demands a price far greater than blood: trust, forgiveness, sacrifice, and redemption.

From the mist-laden forests of New England to the shadowed hallways of the Vatican, The Vampire — A Covenant for Peace is a breathtaking journey of survival, vengeance, friendship, true love, and the cost of finding peace in a world filled with those who crave power and control above all else and who will stop at nothing to ensure that Rex succumbs to the darkness within that has forever sought to claim him.

The Vampire — A Covenant for Peace is available on Amazon.com (paperback/Kindle) and Barnes & Noble (NOOK) and Apple iBooks.

AUTHOR BIO:

Raina C. Smith is the author of six novels, each a unique blend of genres that combines supernatural mystery, science fiction, and religious intrigue. From the dark allure of The Vampire series (The Vampire and The Vampire - A Covenant for Peace) to the expansive interstellar world portrayed in The Earth Consented, or the spine-chilling twists of The 13th Apostle trilogy (The 13th Apostle, Divine Providence, and Thy Kingdom Come), Smith’s works captivate readers by delving into the complexities of the soul and humankind’s struggle, offering a diverse, thrilling reading experience.

Inspired by her home state of Rhode Island’s rich history and fascination with the universal energy that connects all life, Smith creates dramatic storylines that explore the human condition, spirituality, the power of fate, and the mysteries of existence. Her novels are renowned for their tapestry of intense storylines, deep emotion, profound themes, brutal conflict, unbridled passion, and richly developed characters driven by their life’s purpose while navigating love, conflict, and destiny.

Smith infuses her writing with a reverence for the natural world while exploring humanity’s place within it. She challenges readers to reflect on the planet’s beauty, its creatures’ wisdom, and the answers they might hold to life’s most significant questions.

Smith believes that to understand who we are and why we’re truly here, we must all embrace the conscious intelligence of our environment, look into the eyes, and feel the hearts of sentient beings who already have the answer.

My beta readers have now all finished The Vampire sequel and gave me feedback, and their observations were everything I had hoped for. They each said they read the novel quickly since they were so gripped by Rex's story, loved the new book, and felt the story continuity, character development, pacing, and emotional resonance were as compelling, mysterious, suspenseful, and thrilling as the first installment. And, yes, Rex and Renée's epic love story continues -- something readers have been asking me about and hoping for since I published The Vampire.

Quote from one beta reader: "This was such a work of art. Thank you for allowing me to be one of the first readers of your masterpiece. I enjoyed every second of it. It felt like I was meeting up with old friends again and hearing what was going on in their lives. I loved going on this journey with them. Great work, Raina! Congratulations!"

My graphic designer has been collaborating with me and is hard at work on the book cover design. From what we have created together, I can tell you that it is just as striking and symbolic as the first book, which was my aim.

I anticipate getting this new book (30 chapters/415 pages) out to readers by February 2025.
